Children across Victoria will get access to $200 sports vouchers as part of a $45.2 million package announced by the state government.
Around 100,000 children will be able to get the vouchers – to help with things like memberships, equipment and so on.
Premier Daniel Andrews said in a post on social media it was important to give kids a chance to get outside and active.
“New bats, balls, uniforms, memberships and sign-up fees can be paid for – and the vouchers will be available next year in time for community sport to get going again.
“I know this might seem like a simple announcement – but it’ll go a long way towards making sure every Victorian child has the opportunity to follow their passion, do their best and have fun.”
Deputy Premier James Merlino said it also includes funding for schools.
“It includes vouchers for families to spend on sport clubs fees, uniforms and equipment; grants for schools to engage local sports clubs to hold before and after school activities or to purchase equipment; and for physical education experts to visit our schools.
“These programs roll out early next year.”
